Why blog?

I've been thinking a lot about this lately.  People blog for so many different reasons:
  • To make money.
  • For fame.
  • To show off, pride.
  • For family history.
  • To keep in touch with family and friends.
  • Just for the fun of it.
  • Because they like to write.
  • To send messages to friends, family, or posterity.
So, the real question is, why do I blog?  The answer is complex for me.  I blog because it relieves me of my guilt for not journaling and scrapbooking.  I blog because I want my family and friends to get to know me and my family.  I want my posterity to know me as a person.

I blog because I am a writer at heart.  I am always composing essays in my head.  Weird, I know.  Entries come from experiences I want to share, ideas I want to communicate, and achievements or people I want to herald.  Once in a great while I will write something in hopes that a particular someone will read it.  But mostly, I blog for myself.  Add in a dash of I want my extended family to know me and my gang.  And a heaping spoonful of family history and you've got me.

Why do you blog?

  1. I write in my journal every day, but it's about the mundane every day stuff. My journal is a journal, not a diary. I have found that in my blogging, I am writing more personal stuff about me. I know that seems backwards, but it works for me! I also write stuff that seems too impersonal for a journal. Like my love for office supplies. That is something that I have never put in my journal, but it is something that defines me.

  2. When I first started my blog, I would blog about whatever just for the fun of it. Since I've started printing it off and keeping it as a record, it's turned more into a journal/family history so we can remember everything we have done.

  3. I should blog for more of a family history purpose. I'm not good at that yet. I think I blog to feel connected to people, most specifically to my ward people. I like to read people's thoughts and experiences, so I guess I feel to share mine to participate in the conversation.

  4. I started blogging when I knew the reality of moving had set in. I wanted a way to keep in touch with everyone without having to constantly write emails, repeat myself or send mass emails.... because that's just not personal. Once we moved, I started getting messages from people who wanted to know more about Turin so then my blog became more about life in Italy and less about me. So, I started the 2nd blog for family related issues only.
